Yavanna and Aule

Description

I have fallen in love with the mental image of Yavanna as a hobbit. It's an idea that has spread through the Hobbit fandom, that she is the chosen Valië of Hobbits. It works out rather well with all the shipping of Dwarf/Hobbit nature, as Yavanna's husband Aulë is the Vala who created the Dwarves.

So when ~AzaleasDolls and *dolldivine made a Hobbit doll game, I made the girl-Hobbit here with the mental image in mind of her being Yavanna, having taken a Hobbit form. It's been a little while, but Azalea has posted the follow-up game, a Dwarf doll maker. Of course, I went in and put together a dwarf with it in my mind as being Aulë in has Dwarven form (I do think both of them also have elven forms they use most of the time in Valinor).

I used the thinner, sleeker skirt on Yavanna because it made her look taller. Even as a hobbit, I imagine her as tall - probably sneaking up close to 4 foot tall. If you take a look, she has braids, which have gold beads holding the ends. I like to think they're dwarven-style braids that Aulë gave her (because Aulë was the one who taught the Dwarves to braid their hair). She also wears a lot of green. Of course she does! She's the Valië of Trees and Nature! Some fanfics have Hobbits referring to her as "The Green Lady". Also, due to influences, she's blonde.

For some reason my mental image of Aulë has red hair. I tried to get in as many braids without making it look too ridiculous. He's got braidtaches, as well as that lovely braided beard, which I had to put in from the optional hair additions, since I used the beard style that has two loose clumps on the sides of the jaw. I wanted him to look a bit wild and woolly, but also dignified. Also, his braids have their gold beads. His outfit started with browns, but ended up on the outer layers being more green and gold. I think I picked the green for that outer coat for contrast sake, but with the gold and red highlights he comes over very Hobbitish in colouring. Funny how that works.
And yes, I know, I used Thorin's vambraces and gave him Orcrist as well. He's a Vala. He deserves a bit of royal-looking regalia, and he's the one who taught the elves blacksmithing, so he'd have a damn cool sword that is probably whole orders better quality than even the smiths of Gondolin could make (and some of them probably learned the craft straight from him too). He can have a damn elven sword since he taught the Ñoldor their craft (Gondolin was a Ñoldor city).

And yes, he's got a Palantír. It's been a while since I read about them but I think at least one Palantír was kept in Aman, because they were originally given to the Númenóreans by the Elves of Aman (Valinor). I have this silly image of Aulë taking the Aman Palantír and pulling faces at Sauron through it. Because Sauron has been a bad bad Maia.
Oh, and I find it fun the comparision of what they have in their baskets - Yavanna with fruit and flowers, Aulë with a collection of blades he's probably working on (as well as the Palantír). It's a great show of their respective mindsets.
